Dream Come True Gala 2007
The
annual Dream Come True gala was held at The Waterview in Monroe
on March 10th. It was an evening filled with great food and great
fun.
The evening started at 6 p.m. with a lavish cocktail hour and a
silent auction with some 60 baskets containing a variety of items
including spa treatments, hotel stays, restaurant certificates,
garden supplies, handmade jewelry and several custom stained glass
pieces.
Our main event started upstairs with a program and music from Western
Connecticut State University before dinner and the JK Band for dancing
after dinner. Jim McMachan, our special honoree this year, was recognized
for his community work and support of Dream Come True. Thomas Pepin
presented Mr. McMachan with a special plaque to commemorate the
occasion.
Our Master of Ceremonies, Scot Haney from Channel 3, followed with
our Live Auction, which raised more than $18,000 with custom suits,
trips, and elaborate catered dinners. It was an evening worth remembering.
The approximately $60,000 that was raised that evening will go a
long way to secure future dreams!

Dream Come True Honors
Jim McMachan at Gala
Jims swinging involvement with Dream
Come True began with the organizations first Golf Outing in
1990 at the Salem Country Club. That was when Vice-president Thomas
Pepin first invited him to play, and hes been an enthusiastic
supporter ever since. In fact for the past several years he has
underwritten the event, with Toyota of Westport, in honor of Michael
Crabtree.
It is important to give something of yourself
back to the community, says Jim. It doesnt matter
if its in the form of a monetary contribution or personal
effort. Its a philosophy that Jim has sustained all
of his adult life and is exemplified by his involvement in several
other charity organizations.
In addition to his support of Dream Come True, Jim is also involved
in the Boomer Esiason Cystic Fibrosis organization, Swim Across
the Sound, and the Bridgeport Hospital Ernie Kovacs Cancer Center,
among other community efforts. His company, Toyota of Westport,
also underwrites a $10,000 community Athlete of the Year scholarship
fund.
Jim explains that in addition to the many wonderful
things Dream Come True has accomplished over the years for children,
ne of the heartwarming aspects of Dream Come True is the effort
it is making with its educational fund to advance to another level.
The fact that there are no paid employees meaning that everything
goes to the kids makes this a commitment for me for as long
as I can do it.
